Scar Revision Surgery.

You may have an unsightly scar that has been bothering you for several years - or you may have a new scar that you want removed. It is important to realize that scars can never be removed, but they can be minimized, reduced or altered. Why?

When the skin continuity is broken by an injury or incision, scar tissue forms between the injured ends to unite them. Age, heredity, genetics, skin and race characteristics can play a role in scar quality - as well as the location, depth, size and direction of the wound. Also, the instrument or object that caused the trauma can play a role in the appearance of the resulting scar.

A skilled surgeon will use a scalpel to cut out the old scar and then reapproximate the newly formed edges close to one another by using fine sutures to keep them close until the new scar tissue forms. This surgical correction will hopefully result in a thinner, less noticeable scar - but a scar will result nonetheless.

Some areas of the body will produce less-visible scars than other areas - because of all the factors involved, consultation with Dr. Ari for your particular situation is necessary to determine if revision will have a high likelihood of producing a favorable result.

Prices.

Your insurance may cover scar revision surgery. If it does not, fees will be determined based on the size and location of the scar and procedure necessary for treatment, as discussed between you and Dr. Ari. Of course, the initial consultation will be offered free of charge if your insurance will not cover it.
