Male Breast Reduction.

Gynecomastia is a Greek word that translates to "woman like breasts."

As young boys go through the typical hormonal changes associated with puberty, as many as 30% may acquire enlarged breasts that will typically resolve in 1 - 3 years. The condition may not resolve for 3% of them, resulting in discomfort - and for some young men this condition can be socially and psychologically devastating. Gynecomastia may be associated with obesity, hormonal metabolism imbalances, liver disease or medications.

Enlarged male breasts are reduced either by liposuction or by surgical removal of excessive glandular tissue or by a combination of the two. On rare occasions, the skin also has to be tightened around the nipples. The procedure is done under general anesthesia on an outpatient basis.
